REBUILD LOCAL NEWS: Research and Policy Options

The Institute for Rural Journalism sits on the steering committee of Rebuild Local News, a nonpartisan, nonprofit coalition that advances public policies to counter the collapse of local news, revitalize community journalism and strengthen democracy. The member groups represent more than 3,000 local newsrooms, with a special emphasis on medium and small outlets. Read more about its mission here.

The coalition has compiled research that shows what happens to communities when their local newsrooms decine or disappear, and is studying and refining a wide range of public-policy changes at the state and federal level that would help revitalize local news. For a short summary, click here.
